About the author:
Mark Hurst was born to be an ad guy. To this day he can sing lyrics to jingles from the ’50s and ’60s. He was grounded and influenced by what his mother (and pretty much every mother in the ’60s) would call a TV addiction.
In the 1950’s the Hurst family had the very first color TV in the neighborhood because their father made his living selling TVs. Pretty much from the first moment the NBC Peacock appeared, and the faces of actors changed from grey tones to the slightly green-hued colors of an imperfect technology, Hurst was fascinated with media and the mirror it holds up to society. He fell in love with story telling and spent the next 35 years telling stories, mostly in the thirty and sixty-second commercials. He spent half of his career writing headlines, catchy jingles and snappy tag lines and the other half convincing people that there is more to advertising than clever headlines, catchy jingles and snappy tag lines.
Now, as a nationally respected strategic brand strategist, he is authoring a book on that subject, and has written half a dozen children’s books for his 13 grandchildren.
