“The Guardians of the Finisher’s Fury” is the final installment in Frank Cole’s The Guardians series. This is the final free peek at the book, but don’t worry, you can get a copy of the book in bookstores or from online retailers.
A dangerous wind buffeted the helicopter, threatening to smash us against the jagged peaks of the mountain. there seemed to be no flat surface to land, but the pilot, following Dorothy’s orders, continued to lift the aircraft. to the west, an expansive body of water glimmered, reflecting the moonlight from overhead. It was a part of the Red Sea and beyond it, mainland Egypt sat cloaked in early morning darkness.
More than a mile below and to the south, the fires of the St. Catherine Monastery flickered in silence. If Trendon had any sense, he would get as far away from Egypt as possible. Maybe there would be time. Maybe the destruction caused by the Weapons of Might wouldn’t be immediate. More important, maybe I still had a chance of bringing the old Dorothy back.
A plateau of flat rock appeared on the western shelf of the mountain and Dorothy instructed the pilot to land. The man, also an Architect, shouted in his language, pointing to the ceiling and indicating the rotor. I couldn’t understand his snarling words, but I knew he was warning Dorothy about the danger of landing there. the helicopter blade needed clearance and if it struck any part of the rocks, the results could be disastrous.
“Do it!” Dorothy held her hand next to the pilot’s throat.
Bracing myself, I gripped the seat until my knuckles whitened as the pilot attempted to set the helicopter down on the rock. A whirlwind of dirt whipped through the opening and the helicopter swayed as the landing skids touched down on no more than a foot or two of ground from the cliff’s edge. the rotors cleared the rock, but I tensed as more wind pounded the side.
